| 04.08.200608:27 (GMT) | Russian secret services are involved in creation of a "anti-crisis" coalition and almost completely supervise parliament, the government and armed forces of Ukraine, the ex-chief of military intelligence of Ukraine (GUR MOU), Alexander Skipalsky, has announced, online paper proUA.com writes. In his opinion, the proportion of influence on the Ukrainian policy of the Russian and American intelligence agencies makes respectively 90 per cent to 10 per cent. The online paper is also critical about the Professional level of the Ukrainian secret services, commenting that “about what professionalism of the SBU (Security Service of Ukraine) could one speak when it was commanded by such a “professional" like the closest associate of [Yulia] Timoshenko Mr. Turchinov?” The online media comments that Mr. Skipalsky with his large experience and high professionalism is simply "prompting" President Yushchenko that he has in his sleeve a rather strong trump and political reprisals in Ukraine might be quite a real thing if only a proper person is appointed to head the main secret service.
Alexander Skipalsky was the founder and the first head (1992-1997) of the Ukrainian Military Intelligence Service. In the past he also held such posts as Deputy Councillor to the Chairman of the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU), and Minister for Extreme Situations. Prior to Viktor Yushchenko's election as the President in January 2005, Skipalsky headed his security service. When the government was being formed then, the former chief of Military Intelligence was considered a possible candidature to take the office of Defense Minister, or that of SBU Head. As one can see, Skipalsky still has his ambitions to play one of these roles in nowadays Ukraine. | |
