| 12.11.200911:00 (GMT) | The Russian intelligence used its agent in Estonia Herman Simm in full, the former head of the Estonian Foreign intelligence Ants Frosch believes.
Speaking today morning on air of the Estonian TV program Terevisioon, Frosch declared that recruitment of the agent and his further work for an intelligence agency of other country first of all had been baseds on human weaknesses.
"It is a tragicomedy how he was promised colonel's rank and Herman Simm considered himself a General of the Russian intelligence", Frosch marked.
After Simm became useless for the Russian intelligence as a source of information, it was obviously decided to get rid of him, but in a way that reputations of Estonia has been damaged, the former Estonian intelligence official considers, according to ERR News.
Mihkel Karmas and Rasmus Kagge from Estonian TV have made a documentary, Treason (Riigireetur). Frosch agreed that the film was well made and told Simm’s story quite accurately. On the other hand it caused Frosch’s aversion to the film, rather than sympathy.
As many as four books are to be published on Herman Simm’s treason case, according to online paper Delfi. Thus the spy scandal will be interpreted even at least in four different ways, by Tauno Vahter, Mihkel Kärmas, Virkko Lepassalu and Edward Lucas.
Harju county court in Estonia arrested the former Defence Ministry official Herman Simm on September 21, last year. He was suspected of illegally collecting classified information and the transfer of it to a foreign state. Harju county court declared Herman Simm guilty of high treason in February this year, and he was sentenced to 12.5 years of imprisonment, Delfi notes.
