| 03.11.200913:10 (GMT) | Vladimir Matskevich, a former chairman of the State Security Committee of Belarus (KGB), visited Minsk last weekend, Narodnaya Volya reports. Matskevich is currently an advisor of director general of a large Russian company, Sovkomflot.
This joint stock company is one of the most important infrastructure enterprises of Russia, the largest see carrier. The director general of the company is Sergei Frank, the former Transport Minister of Russia (1998-2004). Then he was an assistant of Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov, the current Russian Foreign Intelligence Service head.
Matskevich was the KGB chief between December 1995 and November 2005, online paper Khartiya’97 expands. One of his last decrees at the KGB post stated preventive arrest for 30 days of Dmitry Pavlichenko, who was a commander of military unit 3214. Matskevich noted in his reference that, according to reliable information, Pavlichenko was an organizer and leader of the group which was in charge of abductions and neutralization of citizens. His criminal group was involved in murders of several Belarusian opposition leaders, Khartiya’97 writes. Pavlichenko was released from the remand prison of the KGB on personal order of President Lukashenko, online paper notes.
