Rahumagi who knows the suspect since the 1990s, told in an interview to the ETV television channel that Simm always had inclination for espionage games and he liked to tell different spy stories about himself and about others.
However, Rahumagi cannot say that this motivated Simm to betray the Estonian state, according to news portal Novosti.err.ee.
Rahumagi does not believe that money could become Simm’s motivation. "Money seldom is the basic motivation. Usually in all greater scandals both in the USA, and in Europe those sums were ridiculous. Basically the reasons of such acts are psychological — whether the person wishes to achieve something significant, or feels offended or revolted by the state", he noticed.
According to Rahumagi, there is not need to be afraid of that the incident would reduce trust to Estonia. "Similar things occur in any state. We are not weakest than the others. This is what counterespionage is working for.”
