During the annual press conference of the Russian President on the results of 2005, which took place today in Moscow, the correspondent of the Al Jazira broadcasting company asked a question concerning the victory of HAMAS in the parliamentary elections in Palestine. We bring the stenogram of the answer of the Russian leader.
"It is a harsh, strong blow to the American efforts in the Middle East a very serious blow. I think that if we want to solve complex global problems, we should only do it together, and not invite participants of this or that process to drag chestnuts from the fire. And together we should sit down and initially listen to each other and make coordinated decisions. Our position towards HAMAS differs from the American and West-European one. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation never declared HAMAS a terrorist organization, but it doesn't mean we support and accept everything HAMAS has done and all the statements it has made. We consider that there is a difference between the situations when this political force was in opposition and aspired to achieve authority, as we know that all over the world the opposition very frequently comes out with radical statements. And the other situation is when it received a vote of confidence from the people and should aspire to reach a state of affairs when the people who believed in this movement will feel the positive results of its rule. And for this purpose it is necessary to abandon radical statements; it is necessary to recognize Israel's right to exist; it is necessary to make contacts with the international community. We call upon HAMAS to commence such constructive work. The refusal to assist the Palestinian people, in any case, we see as erroneous ".

The AIA is preparing for the publication of an extensive file on the secret background of relations between Moscow and HAMAS.
