The man "who have made himself", the former Polish emigrant, and nowadays a Canadian millionaire, Tyminski achieved significant success during the presidential campaign of 1990. Today he offers Poles inexpressive populist program, which almost no voter is ready to support...
Stanislaw Tyminski was born on January, 27, 1948 in Polish city of Pruszkow, near Warsaw. He is an electronics technician by education. He is married for the third time, his wife Mulan is Chinese by origin. From his first two marriages with the citizens of Finland and Peru Tyminski has 4 children. In 1970, Tyminski at the age of 22 immigrated to Canada. There he started vigorous commercial activity in the field of electronics, reaching even the neighboring United States. In 1981 he decided to try his luck in South America and went to Peru, the city of Iquitos. The fate has smiled at him on a new place, and during less than a decades the former Polish emigrant turned into succeeding owner of financial mini-empire, possessing even a local cable television net.
However at the beginning of the Nineties the quiet life of the rich businessman in Peruvian province was not enough for ambitious Tyminski. After the collapse of the Communistic bloc in the East Europe, there were grandiose political, economic and social changes in his native Poland. Tyminski decided to take an active participation in them. In 1990 he returned to Warsaw with a capital made abroad and immediately joined the pre-election presidential campaign. To the surprise of many, in the first round he easily overcame two known politicians, Tadeusz Mazowiecki and Wlodzimierz Cimoszewicz and in the second round had to face Lech Wales, the leader of "Solidarity" movement himself.
But Tyminski's luck run out and compromising information transferred by opponents to the Polish TV (TVP) hampered his efforts. According to it, the presidential candidate used to beat his Peruvian wife. This information was broadcasted on the eve of the second round of voting. In parallel, known Polish edition Gazeta Wyborcza published an article claiming that Tyminski during his residing in the West cooperated with the communistic intelligence service of Poland. Both publications, no doubt, have done much harm to Tyminski's chances. As a result, he got only 25.3 % of the vote (however, even without that his chances to overcome popular Walesa were not really great). After the elections the businessman has brought an action on TVP and, later won his litigation against the TV. However, the serious damage was caused to his image. For this reason Tyminski returned to Canada in 1991.
After 1991 he tried to create in Poland the new political party under the name "Party X" (Partie X). However this formation has not played any significant role in the Polish political life. After its self-dissolution, Stan Tyminski seemed to lose finally all political ambitions. Living in Canada, he, nevertheless, remained active on the Polish economic arena. In 1994-1996 his Maloka BBS firm was active in Poland, being the first in the country Internet provider, and also rendering various communication services (debatable forums, teleconferences, chats, on-line computer games, etc.). In 1996, in the view of financial difficulties, this firm seized to work.
In 1995 the rumors about Tyminski's intention to take part in the presidential campaign of that year appeared, however, this didn't happen. By his own words, Poland has not called for him, and he was not ready for a struggle. But in Canada Tyminski headed some time the Canadian Libertarian Party (a federal political party running on a free-market libertarian platform). Today, being most of the time in Canada, Tyminski, nevertheless, does not lose connections with his native land. He is actively publishing at local Polish weekly journal Goniec, and also at the known Internet-portal Wirtualna Polonia.
At the current presidential elections Tyminski is running on behalf of the so-called Polish-wide Civic Coalition (Ogólnopolska Koalicja Obywatelska, OKO), the organization created in 2004, uniting about 140 various public and professional organizations. His present political program is a classical example of populism. Among its basic items - improvement of the image of Poland in Europe and in the world, increase of the standard of living of the Polish citizens, limiting of unemployment, increase of the level of public health services, etc.
In the field of the foreign policy Stan Tyminski is sharply against the Polish military contingent presence in Iraq. According to the last polls, Tyminski's chances to win in the presidential elections are less than zero. The times when quarter of the Polish voters was ready to support the candidate only because he arrived from the West, are gone. No doubt, the hour of triumph of Tyminski-politician will never repeat itself.
